Contemporary Issues:- Muslim women wear the head-covering (hijab) in fulfillment of God’s decree to dress modestly. From a practical standpoint, it serves to identify one as attempting to follow God in daily life and, therefore, protects women from unwanted advances from men. This type of modest dress has been worn by righteous women throughout history. Prominent examples are traditional Catholic Nuns, Mother Teresa and the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus.

Imam Ali (A.S.)A father and a son were once guests of Imam Ali (A.S.). As they arrived, Imam Ali (A.S.) received them warmly and arranged for their comfortable accommodation. In a room where they were seated, Imam Ali (A.S.) sat opposite to them, engaging them in a friendly conversation. And then it was time for the meal. After food had been served and eaten, Qambar, Imam Ali’s servant, brought a basin and a pitcher full of water for washing the guest’s hands. Imam Ali (A.S.) took the pitcher himself and asked the father to extend his hands so that he would pour the water.

Eid Al-GhadeerProphet Muhammed (P) went to Makkah in his last year of his life to perform the annual pilgrimage “Hajj”. He also invited all the Muslims to take part in the Hajj pilgrimage. In a short while, large number of Muslims was moving towards Makkah, were they learned the customs of Hajj from the Prophet and performed the glorious worship of Hajj.

Jesus has been referred to as ‘Issa and his chaste mother as Maryam in the Holy Quran.
Both Jesus and his mother Mary have been held in high esteem in Islam. Muslims believe in Jesus as the Prophet of the Almighty God and his mother Mary as a pure and chaste woman who conceived and gave birth to her son purely by the will of God without any mortal touching her.
Let us briefly look at some of the verses from the Holy Quran, which talks about them.
