Eid Al-Ghadeer Al-Mubarak

Eid-e-Ghadir is one of the most important day for MOMINEENS around the world as that is the day on which our beloved Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) declared Hazrat Ali's vicegerency at Ghadir-e-Khum on his return from his last pilgrimage which is known in history as ‘Hajjat-ul-Wida'. This event took place on the 18th of Zil-Hajj (1410 AH), in front of nearly one hundred thousand (100,000) Muslims.

When the Prophet and his followers were returning from his last pilgrimage. Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) announced that he had received an important revelation from Allah, and made a halt at the pond called Ghadir Khum. A make-shift dias was erected from sadles, sticks and camel skins and as soon as all the pilgrims were gathered, he acted upon the revelation of Ayah-e Gadhir Khum.

"O Messenger (Prophet), deliver to the people what has been revealed to you from your Lord and if you do not do so then you will not have delivered His message and Allah will protect you from the people."

He praised and thanked Allah and said:

" O people! I am about to be called to Allah and depart to Him. I am responsible and so are you. What do you say? "

" We bear witness that you have delivered the Divine Message, fought for it and were faithful in guiding the people. May Allah reward you with His rewards, " they replied.

The Prophet proceeded: " Why do you not bear witness that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger, and that Paradise is true, Hell is true, Death is true, Resurrection after death is true, that the Day of Judgment will doubtlessly come and that Allah will raise to life the dead from their graves? "

" We bear witness to these," they said,

"O Lord! Bear witness," Prophet (s.a.w) said.

Then he went on saying:

"O people! Allah is my Master and I am the master of the faithful and I have superior right on and control over their lives.

And this Ali is the master (MAWLA) of all those of whom I am master (MAWLA). O Allah! Befriend every friend of his and be the enemy of every enemy of his. "

He further said:

" O people! I will depart from you and you will certainly meet me at the Fountain (Kawsar) : A Fountain that is wider than the distance between Basrah and San'a' and has two goblets of silver as large as the space in which the stars are swimming. When you shall reach me I shall interrogate you about your behavior towards the two valuable assets after my death. The major asset is the Book of Allah, the Mighty and Glorious, one end of which is in the hand of Allah, the Exalted, and the other end of which in your hands. Grasp it tightly and do not go astray and do not change or amend it. The other asset is my Progeny, who are my Ahl al-Bayt. The Knower of subtleties, the Aware has told me that they will join me at the Fountain as soon as their life on earth expires".

Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) felt great relief upon accomplishment of his mission of declaring Hazrat Ali(a.s) his successor and legatee, wasi, and thereupon received the final revelation:

"This day have I perfected for you your religion and completed My favor on you and chosen for you Islam as a religion" Quran 5:3.
